This summer Zalando together with IDEO launched “The Studio”, a separate unit of designers and experts working on the next apps by Zalando. (Right now the website of the studio teases a coming “new app for authentic looks from real people”.)
The Studio is a new, small, Berlin-based crack unit of design researchers, interaction designers, and retail experts drawn from Zalando and IDEO. (..)
Fashion platforms are reshaping how people find new designers, get inspired, follow trends, get opinions, and how, where, and when they buy clothes.
We think there’s an extraordinary opportunity to reimagine the fashion business for the 21st century.
So Zalando has created the Studio with global design and innovation firm IDEO to explore that future, and build it. (..)
to move Zalando from being a retailer to becoming a fashion platform, building new businesses that reimagine the world of fashion. The Studio is central to fulfilling that ambition, using human-centred innovation to understand people’s emerging needs, and quickly create new digital products, services and experiences that get to market, fast.
Some impressions of the space can be found here.
It is a fascinating organizational choice hinting at Zalando being determined to be as experimental, forward looking and agile as possible when it comes to the mobile user experience. This is precisely what the Zalando management has been talking about publicly over the course of the year.
